The Pima County Department of Environmental Quality issued an advisory today for ground-level ozone air pollution for the Tucson metropolitan area.
"Individuals who are especially sensitive to air pollution may experience shortness of breath, coughing, throat irritation, wheezing and breathing discomfort. It is possible that ozone levels may be elevated tomorrow if weather conditions are similar," the agency's news release said.
"If you are especially sensitive to ozone, you may want to limit your level of exertion outside between noon and 6 p.m. when elevated levels of ozone pollution are more likely to occur. Intense physical outdoor activity causes faster and deeper breathing, which allows ozone to penetrate into the parts of the lungs that are more likely to be injured.
"Those who are most likely to be sensitive to ozone include children, adults who are active outdoors, people with respiratory diseases, and certain individuals who have an unusually sensitivity to this particular pollutant. Those people who are feeling symptoms should seek medical attention, if necessary.
SourceATLANTA, Ga., (April 1, 2011) – Although air quality is a year-round concern in Georgia, ozone forecasting has historically been conducted during the five-month period from May through September when ground-level ozone is most likely to form.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has reviewed elements of New York's proposed comprehensive State Implementation Plan (SIP) revisions for the 0.08 parts per million (ppm) 8-hour ozone national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS or standard)
This proposed determination ("Termination Determination") is based on complete, quality-assured monitoring data showing attainment of the 1-hour ozone National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS), which is due to permanent and enforceable emission
This plan was implemented to address concerns that smoke from Flint Hills agricultural burning during April was impacting urban areas by significantly increasing ozone levels, specifically the Wichita and Kansas City areas. Ozone is the number one air
ASHEVILLE — Another sign spring has returned to the mountains: daily air quality forecasts resume this week. The daily color-coded air quality forecasts that run through Sept. 30 help determine whether levels of ozone and fine particles could be
